James Lunsford

Mr. James Hubbard “Pee Wee” Lunsford, age 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 1, 2014 after four years of declining health. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Born on August 26, 1928 in Person County, N.C. James was the second of six children born to James Clinton and Gladys Dixon Lunsford, who predeceased him. Hubbard as he is affectionately called by his family worked on the family farm growing up. That work ethic influenced him to join the U.S. Marine Corps. After his service, Pee Wee worked for Swanson Motors as the Body Shop Manager for twenty five years. He later became an Insurance Adjustor for State Farm Insurance Company where he retired after twenty two years of service. Even while holding a full-time job, Pee Wee still farmed tobacco in Person County, N.C. He enjoyed working more than most folks enjoy taking a vacation. He was a member of American Legion Post #325. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of thirty one years, Shirley Davis Lunsford of the residence, two daughters, Patricia L. McGuire (Ronnie) of Ringgold, Sara Garrett (Bobby) of Danville, fourteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, three sisters, Pat Wilkins Lee of Oxford, N.C., Nan Andrews of Gibsonville, N.C. and Nettie Ann Hargis (Ray) of Roxboro, N.C. Also surviving are four stepchildren, Robin M. East, Pamela D. Hall, Lisa M. Lawson and Rob M. McElwee. He was predeceased by a son, James Leon Lunsford, a brother, William H. Lunsford and a sister, Jane Critcher. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Robert Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park with Military Rites to be performed by the U.S. Marine Corps and the American Legion Post # 29 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the funeral home from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 574 Iris Lane, Danville. The family suggest that memorials be made to the Danville Salvation Army, 2905 Riverside Drive, Danville, Va. 24540 or to God’s Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, Va. 24540.
