Robert C. Elliott

Robert Carr Elliott, 84, of 291 Sunset Drive Dry Fork, VA (Whitmell) died Monday, August 11, 2014 at 9:24 am in Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past three months. Mr. Elliott was born in Whitmell at his parent’s home on Sunset Drive December 19, 1929. He was the only son of the late Walter Carr Elliott and Harriett McLaughlin Elliott. He was a graduate of Smith and Bassett – Richmond with an Associate’s Degree in accounting. He worked briefly for American National Bank and Trust Co. but later he became a full-time farmer in Pittsylvania County until his illness. Mr. Elliott drove a school bus for the county for 40 years. Mr. Elliott was a member and choir director of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church on the Mount Cross Road. In 1971 his family joined the Whitmell United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir with his oldest daughter, grandson, and granddaughter-in-law until his passing. He loved his church, his family, farming and softball. Mr. Elliott is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean Astin Elliott. Other family survivors include his three children, Janet Robertson, Judy Dallas and David Elliott all of the Whitmell community and Judy’s husband, Donald Dallas and David’s wife, Laurie Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott have nine grandchildren, Jerry and Phillip Dallas; Joseph, Justin and Jason Robertson; Mary Kaiser, Amber, Lauren and Jacob Elliott. They also have fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sister, Jamie E. Cox of the Spring Garden Community. Funeral services will be held at the Whitmell United Methodist Church on Whitmell School Road on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Susan Hannah officiating. Interment will follow in the Elliott family cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 7:00-8:30 at the church and other times at the residence. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Elliott family. If friends prefer they may send contributions to the Whitmell United Methodist Church Building Fund or to Tunstall Fire and Rescue.
