Virginia Kate Cox Jessen

Virginia Kate Cox Jessen, 84, of 3945 Mount Cross Road Danville, VA, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Lee County of Dryden, VA on November 23, 1937. The daughter of the late Henry Jessee Peters and Gladys McPherson Peters. She lived most of her life in Danville, VA and retired from Owens Brockway. She was a member of the Brush Arbor Baptist Church, as well as an active member of the Women’s Ministries, the Women’s Sunday School Department, and involved in countless community outreach programs. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and tending to her garden. She was an animal activist and made monthly contributions to the ASPCA and the Danville Humane Society. She is preceded by her first husband Glenn Cox and one granddaughter Kimberly Dawn Cox. Three brothers Cecil Peters, Howard Peters, and Glenn Peters. Kate is survived by her husband Ralph Lewis Jessen of the residence; one son Steven Cox and Lynnette Gillespie Cox of Keeling, VA, one granddaughter Jessica Cox and husband, Nicholas Rehder of Tampa, FL, and two sisters Phyllis Barney and her late husband Chris Barney of Dryden, VA, and Linda Thompson and her late husband Jerry Thompson of Chester, VA. Also, three brothers Jimmy Peters and wife Lynn, Henry Peters Jr. and his late wife Sharon, Paul Peters and wife Kathy of Dryden, Va. She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She adored her family and friends, her church and church family, and she cherished her cats. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Brush Arbor Baptist Church with the Reverend Jim Curran and the Reverend Roy Jones officiating. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the church and at other times they will be at the residence of her son, Steven Cox, 761 Homestead Trail, Ringgold, VA 24586. In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to the Danville Area Humane Society or the Pittsylvania County Pet Center. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Jessen family.
