Donald E. Ligon

Donald E. Ligon, 79, 219 Mowbray Arch, Danville, VA completed his journey in this life on July 31, 2013. Donnie was born on January 2, 1934 in Danville, a son of the late Harry G. Ligon, Sr. and the late Nell Hawker Ligon. He was married 55 years to Faye East Ligon, who survives of the residence. Also surviving are one daughter, Ashley Lovelace and husband David of Danville, two grandsons, Zachary and Andrew Lovelace, and one sister, Betty Ligon Martin. He was predeceased by one son, Stephen Scott Ligon; and one brother, Harry Garland Ligon, Jr. He was a graduate of Schoolfield High School, a graduate of the school of bank management of the University of Virginia, and received a B.S. Degree in business management from Averett University. He was a retired V.P. of the former Nations Bank, an instructor for American Institute of Banking in Danville for several years at Danville Community College, was chairman of trustees for the state of Virginia Knights of Pythias Lodge, chairman of trustees for Phoenix Lodge #62, Knights of Pythias in Danville. He also was a member of the board of directors of Hines Memorial Pythian Home of Virginia, past grand chancellor commander of the state of Virginia, Knights of Pythias. Also, he was a past president of the former Dan River Sertoma Club. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the administrative board and finance committee. He served four years in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. A graveside will be conducted on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Danville Memorial Gardens with Pastor Tilden Bridges officiating. Interment will follow the service in the cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.
