Earl Snead

Earl Thomas Â?ChiefÂ? Snead, 74, of 688 Johnson Road, Dry Fork, Va., went home to be with his new found Lord Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in his health for the past six months. Mr. Snead was born January 29, 1936 in the Swansonville community of Pittsylvania County, Va., a son of the late Bernard Thomas Snead and Doris Virginia Gardner Snead. He had lived his life in Norfolk, Va. and in Dry Fork, and had retired, after twenty years of service, from the U.S. Navy, having served in Korea, the cuban missile crisis, and in Vietnam. Also, he had retired from the City of Danville where he had worked as a mechanic in the Maintenance Dept. and recently had worked for the Danville Register & Bee. Mr. Snead was a member of the Scottish Rites, Shriners, Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge, V.F.W. Post 649, American Legion, Dan River Post 1097 and the Fleet Reserve Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Snead, Ernest Snead and Nelson Dix, and by two sisters, Frances Smith and Margaret Spain. Survivors include his significant other for 41 years, Wanda, of the residence; daughters, Sandra Pierce, and husband Max of Dry Fork, Va., Karen Arnn, and husband Bob of Keeling, Va., Janet Poole of Danville, Va. and Sherry Rogers of Washington, Illinois, a son, Billy Snead of Danville, VA., brothers, Louie Snead of Danville, Va., Donald Snead of Panama City, Fl, and Troy Snead of Roxboro, NC., sisters, Vickie Slate of Danville, Va., Amelia Revis of Stafford, Va. and Dorothy Wall of Danville, Va., eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel with the Reverend Mike Hearp officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park with military honors by the U.S. Navy and the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday, July 2, 2010 at the funeral home from 7:00 Â? 8:30 p.m. and at other times at his residence in Dry Fork, and at the Karen Arnn residence, 453 Adams Trail, Keeling, Va. Also, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 2323 Riverside Drive, Suite J, Danville, Va. 24540.
