Evelyn Aaron

Virginia Evelyn Groff Aaron, age 89, the beloved wife of the late Conley Lee Aaron, Jr, went to be with him on September 27, 2016 and through the grace of their Heavenly Father continue together their journey of eternal life. Conley and Evelyn were married on September 3, 1944 and were together for nearly 46 years. They were co-owners of Aaron Company, which specialized in screenprinting garments and other items. She was born at Dry Fork, Virginia on October 25, 1926 to John Clark Groff, Sr and Virginia Lee Lewis (Groff), and grew up in Pittsylvania County and Danville. Her two brothers Ryland Groff and John Clark Groff Jr both of Raleigh, North Carolina predeceased her, leaving her the last descendant of her family line. Her paternal grandparents, Jean H. Graf and Elisa Hirshbrunner Graf, and their family, emigrated from Switzerland to Pittsylvania County in 1871 and farmed at White Oak Mountain. Her maternal grandparents were Judson Lewis and Mary Ella Davis (Lewis) also of the county. Survivors include her three children: Larry Aaron with wife Nancy, Connie Baldwin with husband Ron, and Bonnie Elliott. Her grandchildren include Lori Cramton, Christi Wright, John Aaron, Matthew Gosnell with his wife Jennifer, and Michael Gosnell with his wife Barbara. Her great grandchildren are Kayla Cramton, Alexa Wright, Noah Wright, Lauren Gosnell, Caleb Gosnell, Tara Amos and her husband Blake, with step-grandchildren Darren Majerick, Amber Reagan, Allen Reagan and Ashley Agee. She is also survived by a great, great, grandson, Liam Amos. Her dear companion for the last decade was her cat Tinkerbell, which she rescued from abandonment and hunger on a cold winter day. Other family related members include Colleen Wright, Linda Snead, Edna Aaron, and Iris Hundley. Among her surviving close friends over the years were Irene Adams, Vickie Wilson, Rita Brooks, Joan Stone, and June Brumfield, her childhood friend and sister in spirit. She was the rock of the family, a humble, unselfish person, who tried to be nice to all she met and make them feel welcome in her presence. She loved history, reading her Bible, working crossword puzzles, sewing, and especially cooking. One of the great loves of her life were flowers and the family welcomes flowers for her funeral service, which will be held on Saturday October 1 at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home on route 58 West, Danville, VA. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the service at 12 p.m. conducted by her son, the Reverend Doctor Larry Aaron. Burial will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. At other times the family will be available at her home, 9144 Martinsville Highway, Route 58 West. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Aaron family.
