Frances Davis Powell

Frances Davis Powell, 93, of Danville, passed away on July 8, 2014 at Riverside Health & Rehab Center after a three year decline in health. Born March 16, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Bennie Field Davis and Elizabeth Moss Davis. On November 9, 1940 she married Meredith “Jack” Powell, who died on October 30, 2012. Mrs. Powell lived her entire life in the Vandola Community of Pittsylvania County. She retired from Dan River Inc. where she was a Cloth Inspector for 27 years. She was a member of Vandola Baptist Church where she enjoyed working in the nursery department for over 50 years, and was a member of the Keenagers Group. She loved her church and her church family. Mrs. Powell worked in her yard and garden until her health failed. She loved flowers and growing vegetables to share with others. Surviviors include two daughters, Judy P. Soyars, and husband, Bill; Peggy P. Cassada, and husband, Russ; two sons, Timothy K. Powell, all of Danville, and Daniel M. Powell, of Richmond; two sisters, Irma D. Hagood, and, Neva D. Scearce, of Danville; a brother, R. Sanford Davis, of Sarasota, Fl; six grandchildren, Kevin W. Soyars, (Michelle), Lori S. Cassada (Edward B. Jr.,), T. Fields Soyars (Jennifer), Russell S. Powell, Meredith P. Riggs (Robert), Russell B. Cassada, III; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth L. Cassada, Edward B. Cassada, III, Britton J. Soyars, Abigail G. Soyars, Emmeline K. Soyars, and Zachary Riggs. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin W. Davis, three sisters, Esther D. Yeaman, Elizabeth “Pearlie” Davis, and Margie Lynwood Davis; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Powell. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel conducted by the Rev. Danny Davis. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday. The family would like to thank her faithful caregivers, Dorothy and Libby, and all the staff at Riverside Health & Rehab North Wing. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to Vandola Baptist Church 1950 Vandola Church Rd Danville, VA 24541.
