George Daniel Rogers

George Daniel Rogers, 91, of, Danville, and Cascade, died on Monday, July 20, 2026. George was born May 22, 1935, in Anderson, South Carolina. He was the son of George Brown Rogers and Marguerite Carter Rogers who predeceased him. He attended Danville Public Schools and was strongly attached to John de la Howe school in McCormick, SC. He majored in Aerospace Engineering at Virginia Tech, where he was in the Corps of Cadets and was a co-operative engineering student with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics at Langley Air Force Base near Hampton, Virginia for four years. He served in the Counterintelligence Corps for the U.S. Army at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Rogers was a professor at Danville Technical Institute and Danville Community College for thirty-two years until his retirement in 1992 and an adjunct faculty member for nine years after his retirement. He was chairman of the Drafting and Design Department and extremely active with student activities, the 1830 Club, Sigma Theta Epsilon and Delta Sigma Delta Fraternities, Student Government and the school yearbook. He was an avid camper and outdoorsman, frequently including his students in his family outings. Later in life he joined Vandola Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He is survived by two sons, George Michael Rogers and wife Carrie of Ringgold, and Lewis Anthony Rogers and wife Vickie of Virginia Beach, one sister, Sylvia Sigler of Danville, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. George’s wife of 60 years, Jean Styers Rogers, predeceased him in 2018. One infant daughter, Rhonda, predeceased him in 1963. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Dr. Scott Bortz and Rev. Robert Hardy, IV officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30-1:45 PM at the funeral home. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the George Rogers Scholarship Fund, through the DCC Foundation Fund, 1008 South Main St, Danville, VA 24541. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Rogers family.
