Georgia Belle Shelton

Georgia Belle Shelton, 98, of 7823 South Boston Hwy, Sutherlin, VA went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Saturday, July 16, 2016 after being in declining health for the past six months. Mrs. Shelton was born in Pittsylvania County on April 22, 1918 a daughter to the late George Washington Cash and Rosa Eanes Cash. She had lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County with the majority spent in the Sutherlin Community. Mrs. Shelton was a graduate of the former Spring Garden High School. She had retired from the former Dan River Mills, Inc. where she worked as a time keeper with 38 years of service. Mrs. Shelton also worked on the family farm and was a homemaker to her loving family. She was also very active in the Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church, now Lakewood Community Church as long as her health permitted. She served as secretary of the fellowship class and she worked in the nursery “Cradle Roll” for a number of years. On August 20, 1945 she married the late James Robert Shelton, Sr. who died on April 20, 1999. Mrs. Shelton is survived by Marie “Rose Bud” Oakes (Ray), James R. “Jimmy” Shelton, Jr. (Sherren), Mary Sue Burdette (Roger), Judy S. Harris (Donald) all of Sutherlin, VA, Martha S. Gosney, Nancy S. Eanes (Ernest) of Ringgold, VA, Robin Alcorn (Sam) of Eden, NC; Six Grandchildren, Tonya, Rachel Ann, Lee, Crystal, Robert, and James; Eleven Greatgrandchildren, Hunter, Kaylee, Kael, Kyndall, Gavin, Cooper, Gates, Carley, Gabriel, Mallory and Audrey Rose; and three very special girls, Kathy Oliver, Carol Webber and Linda Prevette. She was predeceased by her husband, one sister, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter. The family would like to thank her caregivers Mary Jane, Peggy, and Doris. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Shelton will be conducted on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Ryan Call and Reverend David Wilson. Interment will follow in the Shelton Family Cemetery, 7578 South Boston Hwy., Sutherlin, VA 24594. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence, 7823 South Boston Hwy, Sutherlin, VA 24594. The family request that in lieu of flowers Memorial Donations be made to the Ringgold Fire Rescue, P.O. Box 10, Ringgold, VA 24586 or to Lakewood Community Church Family Center, 129 Clarks Mill Road, Ringgold, VA 24586. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Shelton family.
