James Starling

Mr. James Edward Starling, age 77 of 9632 Martinsville Hwy., Danville, died Monday afternoon, December 7, 2009 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health for four years. Mr. Starling was born on April 21, 1932 in Danville, a son of the late Hubert Golden Starling and the late Alice Miller Starling. He had lived his earlier life in Mount Airy, N.C. and most of his adult life in the Danville area. He was employed in the Maintenance Department of Corning Glass from 1962 to 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a past member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Tree of Life. On April 21, 1984, he was married to Barbara Lester Starling, who survives. In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two daughters, Veronda S. Osborne and husband, Dale of Ringgold, Lisa S. Hodnett and husband, Randy of Danville, one son, James Anthony Â?TonyÂ? Starling and wife, Leslie of Massillon, Ohio, one step daughter, Ellen Â?BethÂ? Craven and husband, Craig of Asheboro, N.C., two step sons, S.E. Hancock and wife, Martha of High Point, N.C., John Hancock and wife, Francine of Greenville, N.C., four granddaughters, Holly Connor and husband, Michael of Danville, Courtney Starling of Danville, Kristen Starling of Massillon, Ohio, Morgan Craven of Asheboro, N.C., five grandsons, Thomas Osborne and wife, April of South Boston, Jeremy Â?TickÂ? Osborne and wife, Kim of Axton, Joshua Edgar and Rachael Shepherd of Iowa, John Cole Sherman of Danville, Shane Hancock of Virginia Beach, one great granddaughter, Summer Maria Edgar of Christiansburg, four great grandsons, Brian Cole Osborne of South Boston, Devyn Clyde and Bryce Allen Connor both of Danville, Atlas Demetrios Edgar of Iowa, one niece, Peggy Stanhagen and husband, John of Gulf Breeze, Fla., one nephew, Larry Dean Martin and wife, Jane of Mount Airy, N.C. He was predeceased by three sisters. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, December 10, 2009 in the Mausoleum of Danville Memorial Gardens by Rev. Michael Turner and Dr. Stan Lawton. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, December 9, 2009 at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. At other times the family will be at the residence, 9632 Martinsville Hwy. and at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Veronda and Dale Osborne of 1230 Kentuck Church Road, Ringgold. April 21, 1932 - December 7, 2009
