Janey Morris

Janey Henderson Morris, 80, of 322 Cumberland Drive, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at her residence after a decline in her health for several years. Mrs. Morris was born in the Vernon Hill community of Halifax County, VA on June 2, 1929, a daughter of the late Roy Satterfield Henderson and the late Eva Mae Henderson. She was a graduate of the former Wilson Memorial High School in Halifax Co., Class of 1946 and a member of the High School Basketball Team. She was a graduate of PhillipÂ?s Business College in Lynchburg. She was a very active member of the former Bethany Presbyterian Church for 52 years, prior to the church merging with Unity Presbyterian Church. She had lived most of her life in Danville and had retired from Dan River Mills, Inc. where she had worked as a shipping clerk in Hylton Hall. She was a former member of the Druid Hills WomenÂ?s Club and she was very active in the P.T.A. for her children and she had served as room mother at school. On October 15, 1948 she married Earl Winston, Morris, Sr., who survives. In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is survived by two daughters, Eva M. Perkins, and husband Perry of Danville, VA, and Jacqueline M. Mallory, and husband Jim of New Bern, NC; a son, Winston Morris, Jr., and wife Becky of Durham, NC; a sister, Cecile H. Shelton of Danville, VA; seven grandchildren, Brandon Perkins, Justin Perkins, Elizabeth Bowen and husband Jason, Brennan Adcock, Winston Â?TreyÂ? Morris, III, William Morris, and Mark Mallory and wife Michelle; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Perkins, Kayla Reamey, Taylor Bowen, Madison Mallory, Marshall Mallory, Madison Bowen and Jordyn Bowen. She was predeceased by a sister, Lois H. Littlejohn, and a brother, Marion E. Henderson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 12:00 P.M. from Unity Presbyterian Church with the Reverend John Losee officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service, and at other times they will be at the residence. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Hospice Support Services, Inc., P.O. Box 2713, Danville, VA 24541. Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel is serving the Morris family.
