John Stanley Gammon

John Stanley Gammon, 80, of Danville went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2024. He was born in Danville, VA on November 8, 1943 to the late Norman Oakes Gammon and late Mildred Moss Gammon. He married the love of his life, Brenda Bryan Gammon, May 29, 1965. Together they had four children Lisa, Carol, Stan, and Greg. John retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 30 years of service. He was an avid Nascar fan (Go Kevin Harvick!) and enjoyed baseball, football, watching his Westerns, eating at Ruben’s Restaurant, and giving all the sweets they wanted to his grandkids and great grandkids. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and “papa” and enjoyed doing and giving to others. It was not often you left a conversation with him without a smile or laugh. His family and friends are blessed to have had such a wonderful man in their lives. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Brenda; his four children, Lisa Fowler (Brian), Carol Brumfield, Stan Gammon (Jennifer), and Greg Gammon (Michelle); grandchildren, Matt (Karibee), Brittany L. (Chris), Jordan, Alex S. (Taylor S.), Brooke, Taylor Y. (Carter), Brittany H. (Luke), Jacob (Bailey), Kaitlin (Marcus), Alex G., Brianna, Savannah, Devyn, Henry, Hazel, Hayes, and Gage; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Colton, Ellie, Rhett, Preston, Anderson, Briggs, and Daisy; his dearest friend, David Cash; his two spoiled dogs, Brian and Snow; and a host of other friends, family, and loved ones. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Lois Sherrill, Mary Nell Hanks, Joyce Holt, Vickie Cassell, Fay Gammon, Kay Gammon, Clifton Rogers Gammon, Frank Gammon, Carl Gammon, Phil Gammon, Andrew Gammon, Danny Gammon, and Samuel Gammon; son-in-law, Robert “Robbie” Brumfield; and granddaughter, Isla Michelle Gammon. A service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, 5858 Riverside Drive, Danville, VA 24541. A visitation will take place 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. The family will receive friends at the residence of daughter, Carol Brumfield, at other times, at 521 Bennett Street, Danville, VA 24541. Interment will be at Danville Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bachelor’s Hall Fire Department. The family would like to thank Bachelor’s Hall for taking such great care of John each time they were called. The family would like to also give a very special thank you to Diane Blair for the love and wonderful care she provided to John throughout the years and for trying “to keep him straight,” as he would always say.
