John Winfield Littleton Sr.

John Winfield Littleton, Sr., 83, of 276 Mangrums Rd, Danville, VA passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at his residence after being in declining health for over a year. Johnny was born in Opelika, AL on January 7, 1941, the only son of the late C.G. Littleton and Anne Williams Canon. He attended Georgia Military College, Florida State (on a baseball scholarship) and after a shoulder injury, returned to Opelika and graduated from Auburn University, where he was a proud member of the ATO Fraternity. He spent 4 years serving in the US Army, where he was stationed in Pueblo, CO. After returning from the military, Johnny continued serving in the Army National Guard until 1989. After returning from Pueblo, CO, Johnny’s textile career started with West Point Pepperell (Stevens). He held various titles during his career with West Point, with his last position as plant manager for the Chipley, Florida location. He moved to Danville, VA in 1989 to work with Dan River Inc. under the new management formed by J.L. Lanier, Jr. Johnny was the Vice President of Home Fashions Manufacturing until his retirement in 2005. On August 4, 2000 he married, Joanie Ware Littleton. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Winfield Littleton (DeVeaux), Leslie Littleton Smith (Phillip), Michael Chattin (Kimmie); grandchildren, Win Littleton (Elizabeth), Brooke Littleton Davis (Matthew), Memory Littleton, Kirsten Glasgow (Derek), Huntley Chattin, and Harlyn Chattin; great grandchildren, Avery Kirkland and Elyse Davis (arriving January 2025); brothers, David Canon (Ann), Richard Canon (Connie); father-in-law, Walter Ware; sister-in-law, Jessica Ware Quisenberry (Tim); brothers-in-law, Carlton Ware (Marsha) and Jeff Ware. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Myron Bruce officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew at 202 Christopher Ln, Danville, VA 24541. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Littleton family.
