Julia Nuckols Byrd

Julia Nuckols Byrd, 72 of Danville, was reunited in Heaven on November 23, 2014, with her loving husband Robert O. Byrd Jr., of 58 years. They were married on August 25, 1956, and he preceded her on November 9, 2014. Born in Whitsett, North Carolina on May 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Jay Ivan Nuckols, Sr. and Ione Graves Nuckols. She was predeceased by her brother Jay Ivan Nuckols, Jr. She was a mother of five children, Robert Wayne Byrd of Danville, Vickie Byrd Booth and husband Larry of Jonesboro GA, Phyllis Byrd Brown of Danville, Lisa Byrd Barker of Charlotte, NC and Lori Byrd Grubbs and husband Christopher of Richmond, VA. She had 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She had a caring heart and a warm embracing soul, sharing her love with others looking for a mother’s caring touch. She is survived by a sister Emma Jean Nuckols Greeson of Whitsett, North Carolina. Mrs. Byrd, a graduate of Danville Community College with a degree in Nursing, later become a certified EEG Technologist. Mrs. Byrd work at Danville Memorial Hospital as head of the EEG Department. She also worked for Drs. Williams and Dorman as an EEG Technologist and Sleep Laboratory Manager before retiring to enjoy a life of adventure with her husband Robert. Mrs. Byrd approached life with a childlike curiosity and interest in people, places, and new experiences. She was an active member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church “young-at-hearts fellowship group. Mrs. Byrd was interested is molding young minds and growing future leaders. She organized the first Girl Scout Troop at Stokesland United Methodist Church and continued to grow the scouting program serving as troop leader, camp counselor, and program consultant for hundreds of young women. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 12:30 A.M. at the Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks. Visitation will precede the funeral service starting at 11:30 A.M. Interment at the Danville Memorial Gardens will be Private. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is respectfully serving the Byrd family.
