Linda Walker Powell

Linda Walker Powell, 77, of Sutherlin, VA passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, following a two-year battle with cancer, which she faced with bravery, dignity and grace. Mrs. Powell was born October 2, 1947, in Danville to the late Willie Samuel Walker and Eula Doss Walker. On June 3, 1968, Linda married William “Bill” Powell, Sr. In her younger years she worked at Dan River, Inc. Later Linda dedicated her life to helping her husband work on their tobacco and cattle farm and built a home she was very proud of, which she would open to visiting family from out of town. Linda had a kind and generous heart. She was a very involved and supportive mother with her son’s childhood activities like scouts or baseball. Linda was an amazing cook, her meals were always as comforting as they were delicious. She attended Rock Springs United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering her time and talents in her church and community. Despite the loss of her central vision later in life, she still loved to travel with friends and family, especially going to the beach and listening to the crashing waves. But what she loved more than anything was spending time with her granddaughters and her great-grandbaby. Linda is survived by her husband of the residence; her son, William “Billy” Powell, Jr. and his wife Holly; two granddaughters, Skylar Robertson and her husband Byron and Kristen Powell; great-granddaughter Bailey Robertson; brothers J.T. Walker of Ruffin, NC, Robert Walker of Providence, NC and Donald Walker of Danville, VA, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Lucille Daniels, Adean Wyatt, Barbara Perrow, Reva Parker and Patricia Beggarly; brothers, W.T. Walker, Billy Walker, Wayne Walker, and Samuel Walker. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at Rock Springs United Methodist Church on Rocksprings Road, Ringgold, VA, with Chaplain Atul Dhanawade officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and at other times the family will be at the residence in Sutherlin, VA. The family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Pittsylvania Cancer Association, 223 Riverview Drive, Suite J, Danville, VA 24540 or to Rock Springs United Methodist Church, Rocksprings Road, Ringgold, VA 24586.
