Lynn Jeffery Hughes

Following a 9-year decline in health, Lynn Jeffery Hughes, age 70, of the Brosville Community, passed away peacefully, at Woltz Hospice Home, Dobson NC, surrounded by his family on August 21, 2026. Lynn was born December 24, 1955, to James Bryant Hughes and Sylvia Gobble Hughes, both deceased. Lynn attended Danville Public Schools and graduated from George Washington High School in 1973. He was a member of the football team, a sport he loved, where he was a fullback. He would tell you, he liked the contact and never backed down from an opponent. He was employed at Goodyear Tire from 1974, until health issues forced his retirement in 2006. Lynn was a member of the 1975 Apprenticeship Program, and he became a Journeyman Mechanic. During the last 10 years of his tenure, Lynn worked in the Press Department. His job was repairing damaged tire molds. Precision work that he took great pride in. His Co-workers say he saved Goodyear a lot of money on mold repair, and after his retirement, no one was able to do the detailed work quite like he did. Lynn was also known around Danville for his racquetball prowess. He could be found most mornings, after getting off 3rd shift, at the YMCA practicing or playing racquetball. He never did anything halfway, and as we all know, practice makes perfect. In 1977, Lynn married his High School sweetheart, Julia Hylton Hughes, who survives him. His family has wonderful memories of time spent at Philpott Lake, Smith Mountain Lake, the Blue Ridge Mountains and, lately, many Baseball Complexes in North Carolina and beyond. His family was of utmost importance to him. He loved and was proud of his babies. Left to cherish these memories, in addition to his wife, are his daughters, Brynn Hughes Daniel and Jeri Hughes Buckner; his sons-in-love, Jacob Daniel and Michael Buckner; his grandson, Beven Daniel, granddaughter, Adalynn Buckner; and his dog; best friend and companion, Laila. He was immensely proud of his children and their families. They were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brothers Mark Hughes (Kay) and Jon Hughes, sisters Sandra Hughes Self (Larry) and Gena Hughes (Greg), brother-in-law Frank Hylton, and sister-in-law Beth Hylton Delehanty (Jim). Also surviving are 3 nieces, 3 nephews and their families, and his long-time friends Larry Farmer (Vera), Tommy Moore (Susan), and Mike Jones (Michelle). The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson N.C for the care and compassion given to Lynn and his family, and his Health Care Aides, Lisa Morrison and Nicole Warren. These ladies became family, and we are so grateful for them. We would also like to thank our friends and co-workers for the texts, phone calls, and meals. And, more importantly, your support during this difficult time. A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel from 6 PM until 8 PM. A private funeral will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017, in Lynn’s memory.
