Margaret McNichols

Margaret Dodd McNichols, died on Saturday, June 25, 2011 in her home in Danville, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She had been in declining health for over ten months. She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband Carl, her husband of nearly 57 years. Margaret was born in the Witt community of Pittsylvania County, on November 25, 1918, the daughter of the late Claude Cleveland Dodd and Kate Evans Dodd. She attended Dixie School and graduated in 1936 from Dan River High School. She lived her entire life in Pittsylvania County and all of her married life in the Blairs community, where she and her husband Carl raised their three children, and her niece the daughter of her beloved sister Mabel. Margaret worked her early life in Kresges and then worked 36 years in the sewing room in Dan River Mills. She was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church for over 60 years, worked with the G.A.?s and was very active in her WMU circle, and her beloved Fidelis Sunday School class. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Susan McNichols Babick, and husband, James, her sons, Carl McNichols, and wife, Judy, and Danny McNichols, and wife, Jane. Margaret was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law Aloise McNichols. Surviving also are three grandchildren, Maggie Inman, Cathy Bell, and Tony Greathouse, and two great-grandchildren. Her niece Wanda Collins, and husband, Garnett, and great-nephew, David Collins also survives, along with many nieces and nephews. Also, a special aunt Mildred Fulton, survives. Margaret was predeceased by brothers, Dewey, Hugh, C.C. and Bobby Dodd, and a sister Mable D. Trexler. Two sister survive Agnes Vaughan and Doris Barker, two brothers, Albert and Melvin Dodd. The family wishes to give special thanks to Commonwealth Hospice, and most especially to Sharon Jarrett. Funeral services will be held at Kentuck Baptist Church on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. David Henry and the Rev. Gerald Reeves officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that memorial donation be made to Mt. Hermon Fire & Rescue 4268 Franklin Turnpike Danville, VA 24540 or to Commonwealth Hospice at 159 Executive Drive, Suite H, Danville, VA 24541.
