Martha Adkins Dodd

Martha Adkins Dodd, 96, of Roanoke, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Star City Rehab and Nursing, in Roanoke, VA, after a decline in her health since September of 2024. Martha was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, on August 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Fletcher Adkins and Rosa Myers Adkins. She graduated from Callands High School in 1947. She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County before moving to Roanoke in 2005 to be near her family. Martha was a homemaker, and she provided childcare for several families for over thirty years. She was a talented seamstress and had many regular customers. She was a member of St. John’s Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Secretary of the Administrative Board, and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Brosville Womens Club. After moving to Roanoke she also became an honorary member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Daleville, VA where she attended for several years. Her family would like to thank the St. Mark's Shepherding Committee for their faithful visitation, phone calls, and cards when Martha was no longer able to attend church. On March 17, 1950 she was married to Jessie Bennett Dodd, who died on May 10, 1981. In addition to her husband, Martha was predeceased by a daughter, Alice D. Inge; her brothers, Jimmie Adkins, George Adkins, and Earnest Adkins; her sisters, Linnie Bates, Sallie Bates, Amelia Adkins, Archie Haley, Virginia Adkins, Gladys Myers, Annie Keatts, and Rebecca Adkins; Sons-in-law, Steve Roberts, and Cecil Blankenship. Survivors include a son, John F. Dodd (Kristine) of Pueblo, CO; three daughters, Rebecca D. Roberts of Roanoke, VA, Linda D. Blankenship of Daleville, VA, Diana D. Fulton (William) of Boyce, VA; six grandchildren, Jason Roberts (Mari), John Dodd (Salvador), Jeffrey Dodd, Jessica Graham (Ian), Amanda Dillard (Jamie), and Jennifer Kayton (Sean); six great-grandchildren, Anthony Foster, Sara Foster, Abby Dillard, Scarlett Roberts, Hannah Graham, and Kinley Graham; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Pastor Jason Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends before the service on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Also, the family suggests memorials may be made to St. John’s Church, 1452 Stony Mill Road, Danville, VA, 24540. The family wishes to express their appreciation to her care team at Star City Rehab and Nursing for the wonderful care given to Martha. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Dodd family.
