Mattie Durham

Mattie Dillard Durham Mrs. Mattie Dillard Durham, age 85 of 124 Pelham Loop Road, Pelham, N.C., died on Friday, November 18, 2011 at The Hospice Home of Rockingham County at Wentworth, N.C. after a short illness. Mrs. Durham was born on November 18, 1926 In Wilkes County, N.C., a daughter of the late Reverend McCager Dillard the late Nancy Walker Dillard. She had lived most of her life in the Pelham Community of Caswell County. She was employed by the Caswell County Public Schools and Burlington Industries for many years. She was a member of Pelham United Methodist Church where she the Communications Coordinator, a member of the choir, United Methodist Women and the Mae Gerringer Sunday School Class. She was an active member of the Pelham Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxilliary. She was a recipient of the Thelma Durham Award. She was married to Earl Benton Durham, who predeceased her on June 29, 1986. Mrs. Durham is survived by one daughter, Brenda Durham Jennings and husband, Willie Jennings of Sneedville, Tenn., two sons, Reverend Larry Earl Durham and wife, Becky Wray Durham of Pelham, N.C., Reverend Donnie B. Durham and wife, Deborah Calloway Durham of Asheboro, N.C. one sister, Vada Dillard Miles and husband, Albert Miles of Hays, N.C., seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Grace Dillard, five brothers, Letcher Dillard, Reverend Fred Dillard, Vestal Dillard, Virgil Dillard and Estel Dillard. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm., Monday, November 21, 2011 at Pelham United Methodist Church with the Reverend Sue Ann Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, November 20, 2011 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Reverend Larry Earl Durham and Becky Wray Durham, 906 Law Road, Pelham, N.C. The family suggest that memorials be made to Pelham United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank the Hospice of Rockingham County and the Nursing Staff at Danville Regional Medical Center for the care given to our love one.
