Mattie Neal

Mattie Sue Guill Neal, 86, of 120 Old Piney Forest Road, Lot # 83, died Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Piney Forest Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She had been in declining health for the past two years and in the nursing home for one month. Mrs. Neal was born in Sutherlin, VA on December 9, 1923, a daughter of the late Edward Earlie Guill and the late Burtia Gilmore Smart Guill. She had lived most of her life in Danville, VA and had retired from Dan River Mills where she had worked for over 45 years. She was a member of the Tabernacle and had served as a former group leader in the Auditorium Bible Class. On May 9, 1942, Mattie married Junior Edward Neal, who passed away on November 16, 2000. Mrs. Neal is survived by three daughters, Ramona Fletcher of the residence, Betty Shelton, and partner James Brumfield of Blairs, VA; and Kathy Forslund, and husband Dennis of Keeling, VA; a son, Jerry Neal, and wife Vicki of Ringgold, VA; and a foster son, Pete Taylor of Petrolia, TX; Four grandchildren, Deborah Phelps of Dry Fork, Pamela Ford of Blairs, Karyn Preston of Danville, and Eric Gunnell of Lakewood, Colorado; thirteen Great-Grandchildren and seven Great-Great-Grandchildren also survive. In addition to her Husband, she was predeceased by six sisters, Mary Guill, Hattie G. Pruitt, Ruby G. Hawker, Lena G. Taylor, Lizzie G. Alderson and Ester G. Yeatts; eight brothers, Harry T. Guill, Hughie E. Guill, Tommy Guill, Charlie L. Guill, Willie P. Guill, Aubrey Â?CottonÂ? E. Guill, John C. Guill and Watson Â?LutherÂ? M. Guill; two grandsons, Jerry H. Shelton, Jr. and Johnathan E. Neal; one Great-Granddaughter, Kendall E. Ford and a foster son, Bobbie Taylor. She was the last survivor of her generation. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel with the Reverend Lamarr Mooneyham officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 Â? 8:30 P.M. and at other times they will be at the residence. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541.
