Misty McBride Brown

Misty McBride Brown, 53, of Chesapeake, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Misty was born on April 15, 1973, in Danville, VA, to Fredrick McBride (Debbie) and Sarah Walton Welch (Steve), who survive. Misty was a graduate of Chatham High School and Radford University. Misty spent her life in Danville, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, VA. Misty worked for Enterprise Rentals where she was an HR Manager. She was a member of River Oak Church in Chesapeake, VA. On October 5, 2002, Misty married the love of her life, Steven Wayne Brown, who survives. In addition to her parents and husband, Misty is survived by her daughters; Riley Elizabeth Brown Dabney (Benjamin), and Karley Amelia Brown; stepchildren, Chelsea Brown and Courtni Brown; grandchildren, Callahan Dabney and Tessa Dabney, on-the-way; five step-grandchildren; brother, Scott McBride (Allyson); niece, Audrey Brook McBride; countless aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved immensely; and of course her faithful companion, Finn. Those who knew Misty knew her zest for life. She was a friend to everyone, a force of nature, and a woman whose presence could never be overlooked. She had a way of making people feel welcome, loved, and important, and she never met a stranger. Misty loved to laugh, to travel, to make memories, and most of all, to love the people around her. She loved her family and friends fiercely and wholeheartedly, and she treasured the time she was given with them. Her warmth, humor, stubbornness, strength, and enormous heart left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. For nearly ten years, Misty courageously battled metastatic breast cancer. Throughout a journey that brought more challenges than anyone should ever have to face, she continued to choose life. She fought through countless treatments, appointments, scans, setbacks, and difficult days with a strength and determination that inspired everyone around her. Even on the hardest days, she continued to love, laugh, make memories, and be Misty. She fought not only for herself, but for the people she loved and the life she still wanted to live. Along that journey, Misty was blessed with an incredible team of doctors, nurses, caregivers, and medical professionals who became so much more than the people caring for her. Misty loved them deeply and was endlessly grateful for the care they gave her and the way they fought alongside her. Through every chapter of her journey, Misty’s faith in Jesus never failed. She trusted Him through the good days and the hardest ones, and she never lost sight of where her ultimate hope was found. Misty loved Jesus with her whole heart, and as the end of her earthly life drew near, she was not afraid of what was waiting for her. She was excited. She was ready to meet the Savior she had loved and trusted throughout her life. She knew that she was going home. Misty leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, faith, joy, and an unbreakable spirit. The years she fought were not simply years of illness—they were years filled with life. Years filled with birthdays, holidays, trips, laughter, family gatherings, friendships, and countless memories. She fought hard for every one of them, and she made every moment count. Her life was a gift, her love was immeasurable, and the light she carried will continue to shine through every person blessed enough to have loved her. In honor of Misty’s bright and joyful spirit, the family requests that those attending the funeral service wear bright and cheerful colors. Funeral Services for Misty will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Oakland Community Church with Pastor Cabbel Cobbs officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations please be made to the Susan G.
