Naomi Clark

Naomi Slaughter Clark, 88, of 322 Piney Forest Road died Friday, October 30, 2009 at her residence. She had been in declining health for several months. Mrs. Clark was born May 29, 1921 in Danville the daughter of Samuel Arnett Slaughter and Elise Davis Slaughter. She had lived her entire life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. Mrs. Clark was a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, was active with vacation bible school and other activities as long as her health permitted. On December 24, 1937 she was married to Samuel Arnold Clark and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1998. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Betty Clark Scearce; a brother, Paul Slaughter and a grandson, Keith Scearce. Survivors include two daughters, Janice Clark Shelton and husband, Paul of Huddleston and Trudy Clark Thompson and husband, Mike of Grover, NC; two sons, Samuel A. Clark, Jr. and wife, Virginia of Danville and John Scott Clark of Mebane, NC; two sisters, Marion McDaniel of Richmond and Nora Winn of Danville; a brother, Posey E. Slaughter of Danville; eleven grandchildren, Karen S. Thompson, Lisa S. Edwards, Joy S. Hailey, Mark Clark, Michelle Burell, Terry Culp, Jennifer Freeman, Josh Clark, Katherine Clark, Michael Thompson and Lauren Bradley; two step grandchildren, Teresa Blair and Robert Blair; twenty great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild. Special thanks to Commonwealth Hospice, Brenda Bibee and Rosetta Tarpley for their love, help and concern at this time. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Larry Ferrell and the Reverend Lewis Harris. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
