Peggy Dalton Burch

Peggy D. Burch was born on August 28, 1947. At the age of 75, her courageous battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma came to an end on July 16, 2023. A battle that she bravely and positively fought for over 3 1/2 years. She was born in Patrick Springs, VA to the late Oscar and Gladys Dalton. Peggy grew up on the “land”farming, raising tobacco and using an outhouse. She often talked about the outhouse days to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On 10/24/1981 she married Michael R. Burch, who survives. Together they shared a total of 45 years together. They enjoyed traveling, eating wonderful food, shopping, spending time with family and simply making a life together. She was his “darlin” and he was hers. For many years she managed and operated Roscoe Griffin Shoes located in Danville’s Piedmont Mall until its closure in the late 1990’s. In the early 2000’s she was offered to help open, manage and operate Rippe’s Shoe, located in historic Downtown Danville. There she continued enjoying her love of shoes and most of all, the relationships with all of her customers until her retirement in 2011. After her retirement she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of others. But nothing compared to the joy her great-grandchildren brought to her life. In her most recent years, she had made it a habit of visiting her remaining uncles and aunt on her mother’s side; George, Teamon and Viola. Peggy was a selfless, caring and loving human. She would do anything for anyone. In addition to her husband, her siblings and her uncles and aunt, Mrs. Burch is survived by one son, John (Vicki) Farmer, III of Durham, NC and one daughter, Shirley McDaniel of Danville, VA. These two were her greatest accomplishments in her life. Among her children she is survived by 3 wonderful grandchildren and their spouses who were equally hers; Crystal (Dennis) Wingfield of Dry Fork, VA; Craig (Amber) Farmer of Oxford, NC and Kailey (Tom) Latimer of Clarksville, TN. She is also survived by 5 spectacular great-grandchildren; Kiley Ann, Riley (parents Dennis & Crystal Wingfield), Jackson, Victoria and her newest great- grand Olivia (parents Craig & Amber Farmer). Additionally, she was the proud sister to two brothers, Claude (Gail) Dalton, Phillip (Alice) Dalton and two sisters Liz Cox and Linda Parsons, who all survive Mrs. Burch. She also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Dr. Hanks and his team at the Duke Cancer Center and to Amy, at Liberty Home Care and Hospice Care. Peggy’s desire to help people will continue even after her earthy departure. Upon her wishes, her body will be donated to Duke Clinical Research Institution, in Durham, NC for further research and in hopes to help others with Merkel Cell Carcinoma. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations go to Duke Cancer Institute at dukecancerinstitue.org or Danville Cancer Association at danpittcancer.org. The family will have a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 29th from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm. This will be held at the residence of Linda Parsons, located at 1431 Jamerson Rd N, Danville VA 24540.
