Peggy Farson Burnette

Peggy Farson Burnette, 89, of 737 Carter Lodge Road, Blairs, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 3, 2026. She had been in declining health for several years. Born January 19, 1937 in Danville, she was the daughter of the late James T. Farson, Sr. and Madeline Atkinson Farson. On June 11, 1956, she married Thomas C. Burnette, who preceded her on November 24, 2012. She graduated Valedictorian of the 1955 Class of Spring Garden High School. While attending Spring Garden she was an avid basketball player for the school team. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Granny and Friend. She spent her entire life in the Blairs and Chestnut Level Community. She worked daily, side by side, with her husband Thomas in their tobacco farming operation, until retirement. They were known to be one of the most respected and successful farmers in the area. She was an active member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church, where she had previously served as Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, member of the WMU and various committees. She enjoyed canvas painting and sewing. She loved designing and making handmade bed quilts. She enjoyed the outdoors and working in her flower and rose gardens. Her most precious memories were spending time with her family. Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Michael T. Burnette (Jayne), a daughter, Deborah B. Gregory (Jim). Four grandchildren: J.B. Gregory (Victoria), Jenny G. Cuthbertson, Caleb T. Burnette (Whitni), Hannah B. Sloan (Cody). Eleven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Braden, McKenzie and Navy Burnette, Caden and Carter Reynolds, James, Emma and Lania Gregory, William and Benjamin Crews. A sister, Jay Farson Terry. A host of nieces and nephews and many special friends. Surviving also is her dear wonderful friend and caregiver, Drucilla Inge. Not only was Drue a caregiver, but Mom’s friend, who shared many happy and wonderful times and outings. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her brother, James Thomas (Tommy) Farson, Jr., and a granddaughter, Jesse B. Crews. We would like to thank her caregivers over the years, and lately, Drue Lans, Kathy and Commonwealth Hospice. Thank you for the special care you gave our loved one. Funeral Services for Peggy will be held on June 6, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Chestnut Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynn Marstain and Pastor Zack Hyler officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on June 5, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel, and at other times, at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Blairs Fire and Rescue Dept, P.O. Box 242, Blairs, VA. 24527.
