Preston "Pete" A. Miller

Our family was saddened at the passing of Preston (Pete) A. Miller on May 1, 2023. Pete, 88, of Dry Fork, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond. Pete was born on November 16, 1934 to Russell Miller and Pearl Headley in Winchester, Virginia. After high school, Pete’s first foray into the service of his country and community came when he joined the United States Air Force working on B36 bombers. Pete chose to continue his passion for service to others attending the Virginia State Police Academy graduating class of 1959. Pete had an exemplary and decorated career of 31 years rising to the position of First Sergeant in the protection and patrol of the Commonwealth of Virginia. After retirement from VSP, he was Safety Director for Davenport Industries for 17 years. Upon final retirement, Pete enjoyed time with his family and traveling. This also meant more time to use his skills as a woodworker and playing a mean game of golf. He loved watching Fox, golf and football as well as playing Dominoes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend to many and an animal lover. Pete has been and will continue to be missed by many family members and friends as well as the community he served for so many years. Pete was predeceased by his parents, brother Allen, two sister-in-laws (Polly and Faye) and his first wife and mother of his children Genell Fisk. Pete is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Randella (Randy) Miller. Daughters Janice Nascimento, Audrey Bryant (David), Gloria Hobbs and his stepson Christopher Tereschenko (Alicia). His brother Kyle Miller (Ruth), sister-in-law’s Weslee Calicchio (Frank) and Lenore Maynard (Denis). His grandchildren Shannon Hatchett (Justin), Lindsay Carpenter(Chris), Danielle Lucas (Bryan), Brandon Bryant, and Maggon Hobbs. Great grandchildren Katie Hatchett; Amelia and Everett Carpenter and Charlotte Ritcher; Preston, Wade and Cameron Lucas; Dalton Hobbs. A Celebration of Life will be on held on October 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, 5858 Riverside Drive, Danville, Virginia 24541. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers Pete’s favorite organizations are Wounded Warriors and Tunnel to Towers. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Miller family.
