Robert Lee Shelton

Robert “Bobby” Lee Shelton, 91, of 5042 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, VA, died Friday, August 4, 2023 at his residence after a decline in his health for several years. Mr. Shelton was born in Dry Fork, VA on January 19, 1932, a son of the late Cosby Menefee “C.M.” Shelton and Georgia Daniel Shelton. He lived his entire life in Dry Fork, VA, and was retired as a self- employed tobacco farmer. In addition to farming, Bobby was owner and operator of New Planters Warehouse. Bobby was a veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Army in Korea. He continued to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for an additional six years. Bobby was a member of Hopewell Church in Dry Fork where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Chatham Ruritan Club, and he served on the Board of Directors for the Mount Hermon Fire and Rescue for fifty years. On December 19, 1951 he married Lois Burton Shelton, who survives. In addition to his wife, of the residence, Bobby is survived by four children, Timothy Lee Shelton (Elaine) of Dry Fork, VA, Steve D. Shelton (Kim) of Dry Fork, VA, Laurie VanDerHyde (Roy) of Chatham, VA, and Lisa Tuck (Michael) of Christiansburg, VA; twelve grandchildren, Justin Shelton (Tiffany), Hunter Shelton (Carrington), Brent Shelton (Elizabeth), Camden Shelton (Cassidy), Kendall Shelton (Rebecca), Tyler VanDerHyde, Abby VanDerHyde, David VanDerHyde, Matthew Tuck, John Tuck, Joseph Tuck, and Elizabeth Tuck; four great-grandchildren; a special friend and neighbor, Jeanette Wilkes; and a very special niece, JoAnne Owen (Claude). Bobby was predeceased by an infant son, Burton Shelton, who died at birth on September 25, 1960; and two sisters, Anne Turner, and Nadeen Turner. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Hopewell Church in Dry Fork with the Reverend Ronald Gibson and the Rev. Dr. Joey Faucette officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park with Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. and at other times they will be at the residence. The family suggest that memorials may be made to Hopewell Church, 4585 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549 or to the Mount Hermon Fire and Rescue, 4268 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540.
