Sterling Foster Hudson

Sterling Foster Hudson (Pappy) of 9559 NC Highway 62 North in Milton, North Carolina died peacefully at this home on Thursday, December 22, 2022 in the care of his family. Pappy was born on August 31, 1930 in Caswell County to the late Joseph Vernon Hudson and Lillie Eva Foster Hudson. He was educated in Caswell County and later joined the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged due to illness of his mother. He worked for American Tobacco Company for thirty years until his retirement. After his retirement, he farmed and ran his little country store (the very same one his father ran,) where you were always welcome to stop in for a Pepsi, pack of nabs and conversation. Pappy met the love of his life, Carolyn Barrett Hudson (Granny) while on the tobacco market in Mullins, South Carolina. They married in 1959 and had two daughters, Teri and Lisa. He and Granny were married for 61 years until her death in 2020. He lovingly referred to her as his “sweet patootie.” There is no doubt she was waiting for him in Heaven with open arms, along with all the dogs he ever loved. Pappy was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Young Adult Bible Study Leader and choir member. He had a beautiful voice and used his gifts for the Lord. A kind and humble man, Pappy often said his family was his greatest blessing and he was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Teri Bullock (Pat) of Milton, NC and Lisa Briggs (Clint) of Milton, NC; grandchildren, Lindsay Elixson (Derrick) of Milton, NC, Katelyn Sweat (Shane) of Mechanicsville, VA, Keri Lynn Purnell (Cory) of Yanceyville, NC and Joseph Briggs of Milton, NC; great grandchildren, Harper Elixson and Haven Elixson of Milton, NC and Mattie Sweat of Mechanicsville, VA and a sister-in-law Debbie Barrett (Susan) of Florence, SC. The family will be at the home of Clint and Lisa Briggs, 9395 NC Highway 62 North in Milton, NC with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, during which time everyone is encouraged to spend time with their loved ones. There will be no formal visitation. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Rusty Oliver, Rev. Rocky Smith and Rev. Wayne Willis officiating. In honor of Pappy, who loved a good sweatshirt, dress is casual. Wrenn-Yeatts Yanceyville is respectfully serving the Hudson family.
