Sybil Beck

Sybil Parsons Beck, 87, of 1609 Blair Loop Road died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for six months and a patient in the hospital for a week. Mrs. Beck was born August 13, 1921 the daughter of Roy Parsons and Sudie Patterson Parsons. She had lived her entire life in the Danville area and was a graduate of the Whitmell Farm Life School Class of 1941. Mrs. Beck was retired from Dan River Mills. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church and she enjoyed her family and maintaining her home. On October 10, 1941 she was married to Thomas C. Beck, Jr. and he died December 2, 1992. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Roy Richard Parsons and Thomas Parsons and a sister, Shirley Salmons. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Nancye B. Fry and Jerrold of Wytheville and Janet B. Holland and Lee of Danville; four sisters, Sallie Kirks, Mildred Pleasant and her husband George, Jettia Riddle and Helen Clark and her husband, Douglas of Danville; four grandchildren, Patricia Fry of Greensboro, NC, Lisa Vipperman and Jerrold Fry, Jr. (Tracy) of Danville and Susan Peterson (Christopher) of Roanoke; six great-grandchildren, Jeffery Deering, Eliza Fry, Stephanie Fry, Thomas Vipperman, Jerrold Fry III and Chase Peterson and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Norma and Spencer Strader, Lori and Rayann Burnett of Danville, Kelli Journey of Texas and Frank and Suzanne Holland of Dry Fork. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by Pastor Steven Greer and Rev. Hubert Inman. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. Mrs. Beck has requested contributions be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew in honor of her niece and nephews serving on the crew or to the Danville Free Clinic in honor of Dr. & Mrs. Edwin Harvie.
