Vann David Burgess

Vann David Burgess, 77, of 2241 Ringgold Depot Road, Ringgold, VA went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Stratford Rehabilitation Center after being in declining health for the past 10 years. David was born in Danville, VA on April 16, 1947, a son of the late Vann Daniel Burgess and Addie Mae Kelly Burgess. He spent all of his life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas where he was a graduate of Dan River High School Class of 1966. He then went on to run his own tire business until his retirement. David also was an employee of the county as the attendant of the Ringgold Depot Compact for over ten years. He was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church where he held various positions including deacon and Sunday School President. David was a lifetime member of the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department, serving for more than 53 years. During his time with the department, he held the position of Lieutenant for 10 years and served on the board of directors. He also took great pleasure in cooking stew, both for the fire department and for his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. On October 14, 1966, David married Dola Jones Burgess who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife, David is also survived by his daughters, Barbara Jo “B.J.” Burgess Farthing (Ronnie) of Sutherlin, VA, Kellie Burgess Duncan (Terry) of Ringgold, VA, and Jennifer Burgess May (Thomas) of Ringgold, VA; his grandchildren, Brandi DeBaere (Andrew), Zachary Vann McDaniel (Briana), Daniel Duncan (Alex), Cheyanne Saunders (Dylan), Dakota McDaniel (Javion), Adam Duncan (Courtney), Claire Duncan, and Gage May; his great grandchildren, Devan, Declan, McKenlynn, Ryder, Rylie, Rhett, Christopher, Alyssa, and Henry (expected June 2025). A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Ringgold Baptist Church with the Reverend Duane Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the church and at other times will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to Ringgold Vol. Fire Department at PO Box 10, Ringgold, VA 24586. The family would like to express a sincere Thank You to all the staff at Stratford Rehabilitation Center for the love and care given to David during this time.
