Violet Holley

Lala ?Violet? DeHart Holley, age 91, formally of 3013 Moorefield Bridge Road, Danville, VA died on July 12, 2012 at Stratford House Assisted Living, where she had been a resident for the past 2 ½ years. Mrs. Holley was born in Meadows of Dan, VA on April 15, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Conner DeHart and the late Annie Eliza Alderman DeHart. Mrs. Holley was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she was Secretary for the Agape Sunday School Class. She also held several offices with the WMU, she sang in the church choir and she was very active in the SEW-BEE?s group on Monday mornings, as long as she was able. She worked at Healthtex and later retired from the Fred T. Hatcher Center as an instructor. Mrs. Holley loved to sew and especially loved to make quilts. She made quilts for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved her family and always enjoyed family get-togethers, especially the DeHart family reunions. On September 20, 1941, she married Lacy Ray Holley, who died on March 16, 1966. Mrs. Holley is survived by two daughters, Ruth H. Keatts and her husband, Willis B. Keatts, of Danville, VA and Cathy H. Conner and her husband, E. Wayne Conner of Alton, VA; three sons, Edward R. Holley and his wife, Betty C. Holley of Danville, VA, Stephen A. Holley and his wife, Dawn W. Holley, of Collinsville, VA and Kenneth N. Holley and his wife, Mary W. Holley of Myrtle Beach, SC; eighteen grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and one great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by five sisters, Ethel Fisher, Grace Eanes, Vadie Frazier, Edna Bailey, and Mae Snead; four brothers, Carl DeHart, Benjamin Preston DeHart, G.D. DeHart and Esley ?Pete? DeHart; and two great grandchildren. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Reverend Bob Yeaman officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Scholarship Fund at Hillcrest Baptist Church in her memory at 4401 Westover Drive, Danville, VA 24541.
