Betty "Carolyn" Barrett Hudson
July 5, 1939 - November 1, 2020
Betty (Carolyn) Barrett Hudson of 9559 NC Hwy 62 North, Milton, N.C. passed away peacefully at her home with her beloved family on Sunday, November l, 2020. Carolyn was born on July 5, 1939 and was the middle daughter of Robert Bradford Barrett and Reba Maxwell Barrett. She was raised in Mullins, South Carolina and graduated from Mullins High School in l957. She was very athletic and outgoing and enjoyed high school tremendously. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for Ladd’s Department Store. In Mullins, she met the love of her life, Sterling Hudson, when he came to Mullins to work on the tobacco market. They married in l959 and he brought her back to Milton to live. They had sixty-one wonderful years together. While still close to her family in South Carolina, Carolyn made friends in Milton who became her family. There were many wonderful memories to cherish of card games, beach trips, seasoning church stews, fun with friends at the beauty shop and cookouts with her extended family. Carolyn’s life revolved around Sterling and their two daughters, Teri and Lisa. She once said she didn’t have to make a Christmas list because God had given her everything she could ever want – a husband who loved her, two special girls and a wonderful home. Caring for them was all she ever wanted to do. Carolyn’s life was even more complete when she became a grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved nothing more than for her grandchildren to come and visit after school, where she had snacks waiting and would watch Lindsay, Katey, Keri and Joey playing in the backyard. With the addition of Harper and Haven, her heart grew even more. She loved Christmas and was happiest when her house was full of family and love and laughter. Carolyn accepted Christ at an early age and was very active in her church, Shiloh Baptist. She was very missions minded – whether it was feeding people she knew who were sick or raising money for those in need that she had never met. Carolyn’s prayer was for God to use her for His good. She served her church in many capacities including being a Sunday School teacher and church secretary, directing the youth choir and served in the WMU in all capacities. She was a good and faithful servant. Carolyn leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Sterling of the home; two daughters, Teri Bullock (Pat) of Milton, N.C. and Lisa Briggs (Clint) of Milton, N.C.; three granddaughters, Lindsay Elixson (Derrick) of Milton, N.C.; Katey Sweat (Shane) of Mechanicsville, Va.; Keri Purnell (Cory) of Yanceyville, N.C.; one grandson Joey Briggs of Milton, N.C.; great granddaughters Harper and Haven Elixson of Milton, N.C. and one sister, Debbie Barrett (Susan) of Florence, S.C. She also leaves behind the blessing of wonderful extended family and friends. Waiting to greet her in Heaven were her beloved parents, RB and Reba Barrett, her sister, Joyce Kellar and her father-in-law and mother-in law, Vernon and Eva Hudson, who she dearly loved. A graveside service will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. by the Reverend Rusty Oliver and Reverend Rocky Smith presiding. There will no formal visitation. The family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church or to the NC Baptist Children’s Home. The family would like to thank Authoracare Burlington and Pulmonary Associates of Southside Virginia for their wonderful care. Wrenn-Yeatts Yanceyville Chapel is respectfully serving the Hudson family.
