Bobby Lee Evans Sr.

January 20, 1931 - May 11, 2019

Bobby “Bob” L. Evans, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 11, 2019, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born January 20, 1932 in Danville, VA to the late Jesse Noel and Maggie Wells Evans. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his four siblings, Jackie Renn, Dorothy Balfour, Donald Evans and Norman Evans. Bob graduated from G. W. High School. On December 13, 1957, this avid fisherman married the catch of his life, Becky Murphy Evans, of the home. They were blessed with three children, Bobby L. Evans, Jr. (Anne), David L. Evans (Jo), and Carol Howell., all of Danville He leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Bobby L. Evans, III (Jessica), Ryan G. Evans, Sarah E. Evans, Chad Howell, Preston Evans, and Reagan Evans. He also has three great grandchildren, Ethan, Landon, and Camden Evans. Bob retired from American Furniture Company after 37 years of faithful service, where he was in the purchasing and procurement department. He loved going to the beach and especially fishing. He passed this love of fishing down to his family. He also passed down his love of playing cards, especially poker. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, and “Bop-Bop” and will be missed by all. Bob was of the Baptist faith. The family would like to thank the staff at Duke Cancer Center, especially Dr. Dan George and Sarah Wood, N.P. for their caring and compassionate care during his illness. A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shining Light Baptist Church with the Pastor Clayton Murphy officiating. The family will receive family and friends at their home at 131 Rosewood Lane, Danville, VA. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Danville Cancer Association, or the Riverbend Fire Dept. Wrenn Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Evans family.
