Connie Leigh Mangum Daniel

Connie Leigh Mangum Daniel, age 58, of Reidsville, NC, formerly of Danville, VA, lost her valiant fight against cancer on Friday, August 24, 2018 surrounded by family and loved ones. She had waged this battle for almost twenty years, eighteen of those years with Danville Hematology and Oncology as Clinical Research Manager for both practices, one year with Cone Health implementing a cancer clinical research program based at Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville, NC. to serve the citizens of Rockingham and surrounding counties and her final year as a private citizen bravely in her own home. Connie was an avid lover of all things water, from the lakes of Virginia, particularly Buggs Island, to the waves of Carolina Beach and the sunsets of Key West. She enjoyed travel, having criss-crossed the United States many times as well as sharing in the splendor and magnificence of Paris, France and all it has to offer and chocolates and beers of Brussels, Belgium. Her love of the south always brought her home and varied from the quaintness of Clarksville, VA to the historical appeal and oddity of Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. Connie lived by the sun and loved by the moon. Connie was the daughter of Bill and Judy Mangum, of Danville, VA. She leaves behind her son, Sam Daniel, of Danville, VA; her daughter, Lauren Daniel, of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; her best friend and love of her life, Marc Stevens and his daughter, K.C. Stevens, of Reidsville, NC; two sisters, Becky Dishman (Matt), Danville, VA, and Linda Thompson, of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; a nephew, Caleb Thompson, of Danville, VA; two nieces, Jessica Mullins and Melissa Weaver (Brent), all of Danville, VA; and three great nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her brother, James William “Billy” Mangum; maternal grandparents, Howard and Jessie Walton; and paternal grandparents, Gordon Mangum and Valeria Mangum. Connie Leigh was a 1978 graduate of Tunstall High School and achieved several professional certificates and national accreditation in clinical research in cancer related fields and governmental study trials. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and at other times at the residence 770 NC 150, Reidsville, NC. Private burial services will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations to continue the fight against cancer be made to American Cancer Society via Annie Penn Hospital or Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association in memory of all that she championed over her career and now joins as a victim of this terrible disease.
