Frances D. Farthing

April 8, 1930 - May 26, 2022

Frances Lee Dalton Farthing, 92, of Lakeside Drive, Danville, VA, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Gretna Health and Rehab after being in declining health for several weeks. Mrs. Farthing was born on April 8, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, VA, a daughter of the late Howard Petrose Dalton and Pearl Vassar Dalton. She spent all of her life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas, where she was a dietitian for Hughes Memorial Home until her retirement after 33 years of service. She was loved by all of the children at Hughes Memorial Home, and treated every child as if they were her own. She was a member of Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Skip-Bo. On October 1, 1949, she married Sam Neal Farthing, Sr., who died on March 8, 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Farthing was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Kay Oakes; eleven brothers and sisters. Survivors include her son, Sam N. “Sammy” Farthing, Jr. and his friend, Teresa Turner of Danville, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James Glenn Chesson, II (Rebecca), Sherri Nicole Riley, and Kevin Wayne Snead (Amy); her great grandchildren, Brandon Riley, Sean Riley, James Chesson, III, Danielle Snead, and Gavin Snead; her sister-in-law, Ann Dalton; and her special friends, Gary and Gail Kilby and Margaret Hidgen. Funeral services for Mrs. Farthing will be conducted on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 2:00PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Elder Danny Parker officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. A livestream of the funeral service will be viewable via the following link at the time of service: https://youtu.be/_mcKUyba2qI The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence, 412 Lakeside Drive, Danville, VA 24540. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church, Mt Hermon Vol. Fire Dept. or to Blairs Fire and Rescue.
