Gwyneth Hyler Barber

Gwyneth Hyler Barber, 84, of Danville went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Born in Pittsylvania County, VA on July 24, 1937 a daughter of the late Howard “Pop” Hyler and Lena Childress Hyler. Gwyneth retired from BB&T (now Truist). She was an active member of Vandola Baptist Church where she was in the Choir, and the financial secretary for many years. She was also a member of the Luncheon Pilot Club and was a volunteer at Danville Regional Medical Center. On October 12, 1957 she married L.B. Barber, who survives. Survivors also include two daughters, Wendy B. Dougherty (Jeff), Paige B. Davis (Aaron); a son, Braxton Barber (Shannon); four grandchildren, Alyssa Dougherty, Carson Davis (Samantha), McKenna Barber, Joel Barber; three sisters, Frances H. Powell, Bonnie H. Farmer, Sally Ann H. Akers; and two sisters-in-laws, Sylvia Hyler, Lynda Hyler. She was predeceased by a daughter, Denise B. Kennedy, two sisters, Mary Lucy Dance, Naomi Collie and five brothers, Carson, Forest, Peyton, Howard, and Lindsey “Bill” Hyler. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Vandola Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Bortz officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Vandola Baptist Church. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Barber family.
