Irvin L Stierwalt

November 14, 1930 - January 16, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Irvin L. Stierwalt, known to friends as "Bob", age 88, of Norfolk, Va. announce his departing from this earth on January 16, 2019 at Northeast Hospital, in Concord, NC. They are comforted to know that his new residence is in the presence of the Lord.Those left to cherish his memory are 3 children; daughter, Patty Hodges, and her husband, Jim Hodges of Mocksville, NC and sons, Irvin L. Stierwalt, Jr and his wife Terry Stierwalt of Kannapolis, NC and Michael Stierwalt and his wife, Cindy Stierwalt of Norfolk, VA. Bob was blessed with 4 amazing grandchildren; Christina Hodges, Stephanie Howell, Irvin L Stierwalt III, and Nicole Stierwalt. Bob was great grandfather to 3 precious great granddaughters; Megan and Regan Howell, and Denver Stanley.He was preceded in death by his parents; mother, Agnes and father, Roy, his brother, Jack and his beloved wife of 55 years, Lois M. Stierwalt.Bob was a native of Martinsville, Indiana. He joined the Navy at age 17 and had an amazing career serving for 24 distinguished years of active duty. He fought in the Korean War and we are grateful for his service to our God, family, and nation. After retiring from his Naval career Bob continued his service to our nation, bringing his talent and working another 22 years Civil Service. Bob worked for the US Naval Supply Center Fuel Dept. at NOB, NAS and Craney Island in Norfolk - Portsmouth VA. Bob was a founding and faithful member of Ocean View Assembly of God, where he served for many years. He was a beloved son, wonderful husband, loving father, and grandfather, he loved his friends and neighbors and enjoyed helping whenever he was needed. He will forever be missed and loved.His "Celebration of Life" memorial will be on Thursday, January 24, at 1:00pm, in Danville, Va at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, 5858 Riverside Drive, Danville, Va. 24241. Following the memorial at Wrenn-Yeatts he will be honored with Veterans Military Honor ceremony at graveside and buried at Schoolfield Cemetery alongside his beloved wife, Lois Stierwalt. Farewell and anchors away Dad-"Pops", Granddaddy- "Paw Paw", Friend- "Bob" and our Buddy- "The Silver Fox". We'll see you there.
