James “Jimmy” A. Rich III, age 71, died on Tuesday, January 25th, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, with his wife and daughters by his side. His death was the result of injuries sustained from being hit by a truck while out jogging. Jimmy was the son of James A. Rich, Jr. and Dollie McCubbins Rich, both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Virginia “Ginny” Rich; his daughters, Ashley Hall (Tony) and Lauren Miller (Jason); his grandsons, Jay and Jackson Miller; his sisters, Debbie Smoak and Laurie Taylor (Allen); his brother, Wade Rich (Brenda), his sister-in law, Sharon Gilbert Winstead (Charles); his aunt, Betty Galloway; nieces, nephew, cousins, extended family, and friends. A graduate of Tunstall High School and Virginia Tech, Jimmy served in the National Guard and as the VP of the former Rich Industrial Supply, Inc. For over the past 20 years, he worked at Applied Industrial Technologies. He was a former member of Kentuck Baptist Church and Woodlawn Baptist Church and a current member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church. Jimmy was a long-time runner and cyclist, but his greatest love on earth was his family. He gave freely and generously of his time and his talents, investing everything he had and was in those he loved most. He structured a home for his family around faith, hope, and love. The greatest of these was love. “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:14-15) Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.
