James "Sammy" Murphy

September 16, 1952 - March 30, 2021

James Samuel Murphy, 68, of 2764 Red Marshall Rd Pelham, NC departed this life on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Sammy was born in Leaksville, NC on September 16, 1952, a son of the late Odell “Neb” and Edith Webb Murphy. Sammy was the area manager of Southside Materials Inc. formerly known as Vulcan Materials Company. He enjoyed being with his family, tinkering with old cars and smoking his cigars. On July 1, 1972 he married, Fran B. Murphy, who survives of the residence. Survivors also include his three daughters, Melody M. Lovelace (Tommy), Christy M. Crowder (Wayne), Candi M. Adams, (Isaiah), a brother, Junior Ray Murphy (Angela), a sister, Marie M. Goldman (Fred), ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Helen Pokrzywa (Ed). He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Odell E. Murphy. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM from the graveside at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Kent officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Murphy family.
