Jean Statzer Marlowe

December 19, 1943 - February 9, 2022

Jean Statzer Marlowe, 78, of Sutherlin, VA, went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at SOVAH Health Danville. She was born in Danville, VA, on December 19, 1943, a daughter of the late Willie C. Statzer and the late Pauline Statzer. Jean was a graduate of Dan River High School, Class of 1962. She graduated from Averett College in 1964 and Longwood College in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Jean was a beloved teacher, impacting the lives of thousands of students throughout her forty years of teaching. She taught at Glenwood Elementary School, Dan River Elementary School, Danville Christian School, Southhall Christian School, and retired from Westover Christian Academy in 2010. Jean was a committed Believer in Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully. She was a member of Lakewood Community Church where she loved teaching Children’s and Adult Ministries, singing in the choir and attending the Ladies Group. In her spare time, Jean loved to read and travel, going on many trips with friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. On June 23, 1967, she married Tony Marlowe, who survives of the residence. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage together. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Melody Long (Dwayne), of Sutherlin, VA and Mary Spond (Kurt), of Fort Bragg, NC; eight grandchildren, Morgan Campbell, McKenzie Campbell, Mason Campbell, Katherine Santiago (Alex), Charles Spond, Emma Spond, Seth Long, and Peyton Long; a sister, Jennifer Statzer; and a great grandchild on the way. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lakewood Community Church with the Reverend Ryan Call officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Lakewood Community Church, 129 Clarks Mill Rd., Ringgold, VA, 24586. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Marlowe family.
