January 27, 1930 - June 14, 2022
Jean Elizabeth Miller Stowe, 92, of Danville, VA passed away peacefully after a decline in health for the past several years at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Jean was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on January 27, 1930. She was the daughter of the late James Cornelius Miller and Mozelle Harris Miller. She spent her childhood in the Washington, D.C. area and in Danville where she graduated from George Washington High School in 1948. She was affectionately known by family and friends as “Jackie”. On November 19, 1949 she married Delton Emmett Stowe whom she met on a blind date. One of her fondest memories of that day was to be married in a wedding gown designed and made by her mother. They were married for 67 years before Delton passed away on January 13, 2017. “I love you and I love you too” were the words they always exchanged with each other. Jean was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend. She was an active member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church where she served with great devotion as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Director, Camp Director and cook, Vacation Bible School Director, and she served on several church boards and committees. She was a substitute teacher for the Danville Public Schools for twenty years and served as a troop leader for her daughter’s Brownie and Junior troops. She taught her scouts camping, sewing, cooking, and many other useful skills in order to earn their badges. Later, she was the secretary-treasurer for her husband’s business, Stowe’s Fire Protection. While raising her children, she enjoyed attending plays, concerts, visiting with family members and friends, traveling, cooking, and hosting parties and family gatherings. As a Roman Eagle resident, she enjoyed the activities of bingo and completing search word puzzles, and attending the special programs and church services. Her most enjoyable times were having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren come visit with her. She always stopped what she was doing to make those visits special. Her faith and trust in God, love and dedication to family, and her loyalty to neighbors and friends will be what she leaves behind as her life’s testimony. In addition to her husband, Delton, and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward (Eddie) Miller, her daughter-in-law Patricia Yeatts Stowe, and her oldest grandchild, Matthew E. Stowe (Melanie). She is survived by her son, Michael E. Stowe of Danville, VA, and her daughter, Sarracia S. Dalton (Ronald) of Ringgold, VA. Jean leaves behind four grandchildren: Dr. Justin Stowe (Jamie) of Forest, VA, Patrick Stowe (Morgan) of Danville, VA, Daniel Dalton (Beth) of Greensboro, NC and Mary Elizabeth Dalton of Ringgold, VA. Her legacy continues with her great grandchildren: Spencer Kate Stowe, Zachary, Maegan, Connor, and Sean Stowe, Kaylee and Emma Dalton, and Danielle Adkins of Danville, VA. Many holidays, birthdays, special occasions were celebrated with family members at Grandma (Jean’s) and Papa (Delton’s)-these times will always be precious memories. The family would like to thank the staff of Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for their kind and compassionate care through the last years of Jean’s life. Also, thank you to Stacey McLaughlin for being Delton’s and Jean’s caregiver for over 13 years. Also, to Carolyn Minor for her Sunday dinners and companionship. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Wrenn- Yeatts North Main Chapel with visitation from 12:30pm-2:00pm prior to the service. Reverend Mike Wiles, who always took time to visit, say prayers, sing Jean’s favorite hymns and Elvis Presley’s hits, will be officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to God’s Pit Crew or your favorite charity or organization. Wrenn- Yeatts North Main Chapel is respectfully serving the Stowe family.
