July 16, 1926 - April 19, 2021
Mildred Deloris Pauley Lloyd, 94, of Stratford House, returned to her Heavenly Home on Monday evening, April 19, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born to the late O. B. Pauley, a well driller, and Alice Pauley, a homemaker, on July 16, 1926, in Tornado, WV. Mildred was married to Frank Stanley Dillon on March 29, 1947. Together they had two children, Sandra Dillon Payne and Michael Steven Dillon. Mildred later married Edward Ralph Lloyd, on March 2, 1973. Mildred grew up on a dairy farm in Floyd, VA. She graduated from Floyd County High School in 1943 and moved to Danville, VA, to work for Dan River Mills in the weave room. She remained at Dan River for many years working her way up the ranks until she reached the position of administrative assistant in the corporate offices where she met Ed. When Dan River’s offices were moved to Greenville, SC, Mildred moved there with her son, Mike. While in Greenville, Mildred earned an Associate’s Degree in Business from Greenville Technical College. In 1982, Dan River closed the Greenville Office and Mildred moved back to Danville with Ed. When Dan River closed, she accepted a position in the Athletic Department at Averett “College” and remained there until her retirement. Mildred and Ed were passionate about mission work and participated in numerous mission trips all over the United States with work crews from Fairview UMC. In retirement, they transferred their membership to Faith Memorial Baptist Church where they continued to the serve their church and the community by demonstrating their faith with actions. Mildred and Ed also loved to travel and visited many parts of Europe and Central and North America as well as each of the 50 states in the US. During the last twenty years of her life, Mildred’s sight and hearing became severely impaired. She did not let that stop her from doing anything except driving. She adapted to the handicap and with the use of visual aid equipment was able to continue using a computer, “watching” TV, reading and all manner of things sight blessed people enjoy. She persevered and rarely complained about it. Mildred was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ed; two brothers, William Pauley and Norman Pauley; and three sisters, Aldene Pauley, Christine Patterson, and Ercel Murray. She is survived by her younger sister, Ruth P. Thompson, of Floyd, VA; her daughter, Sandra Payne (Albert); her son, Mike Dillon (Olga); her three grandchildren, Chris Payne (Han), April Payne Akins (Andrew), and Angie Payne Wetzel (Andy); and her seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Sam, and Olivia Payne, Caroline and Ben Wetzel, Ainsley Akins, and Michelle Djiguir Mildred’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service will take place on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at 3:00 PM at Faith Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, at the church, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Mildred during the COVID pandemic when visitation privileges were suspended at Stratford House and the isolation was especially hard on her; and during her last days in hospice care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Lloyd family.
