Mildred B. Wilkerson

March 20, 1933 - May 2, 2022

Mildred B. Wilkerson, 89, of Ringgold, VA departed this life on Monday, May 2, 2022. Born in Pittsylvania County, VA on March 20, 1933 a daughter of the late William Thomas Boyd and Katie DeMott Boyd. She told of moving quite often as a child and always having a house full of people, as in those days’ no one was ever turned away and all enjoyed a hot meal. Mildred graduated from Dan River High School in 1951 and one week later joined the staff at American National Bank & Trust Company and retired in 2001 after 50½ years of service. A flag pole at the main branch was dedicated in her honor. In high school she played Basketball and in later years was active on the reunion committee. She was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church and a member of the Ola Lea Bible (Circle) study group and the WMU. Mildred always enjoyed the holidays, decorating her many Christmas trees, hosting Christmas gatherings for the Ola Lea Circle, the Boyd family and the Wilkerson family. She and Sonny also enjoyed traveling across the United States and Canada with the Scott Tour group. She and Sonny were members of the Southern Squares and attended numerous national conventions and were once seen on the National network news dancing. On July 10, 1955 she married Donald Curtis “Sonny” Wilkerson, who passed on March 15, 2012. Survivors include a daughter, Laura W. Whitt, and husband, C. Keister Whitt, III, of Ringgold; a sister, Frances “Tillie” B. Long, and husband, Larry, of Fishersville, two granddaughters, Abby W. Chaney, and husband, Alan, of Danville; Leah W. Jarvis, and husband, Kevin, of Graham, NC; and two great-grandsons, David Gage Chaney and Hayden Clay Chaney. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister, Virginia B. Emerson and a brother, Calvin T. Boyd. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Carl E. Burger. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home and at the residence at other times. Special thanks to her sitters, Amy W. Head and the staff at the Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Ringgold Baptist Church, Ringgold Fire & Rescue, or the Danville Life Saving Crew. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Wilkerson family.
