Rafael Wayne Brumfield, 81, of Danville, VA, died Monday, May 23, 2022 at Riverside Health & Rehabilitation Center after a decline in his health for the past five years and a sharp decline in health since March of 2022. Wayne was born in Danville, VA, on November 22, 1940, a son of the late William Anderson Brumfield and Rachel Gosney Brumfield Deutsch. He lived his entire life in Danville, VA, and was a graduate of GWHS, class of 1959, and attended VPI Extension. Wayne retired from Brumfield Studios as owner and operator. Prior to Brumfield Studios he was a member of the Danville Police Department from 1963 until 1972. Wayne was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed fishing and photography. He was a member of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association and in his early years he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. On April 10, 1964 he was married to Betty Jo Johnson Brumfield, who survives. In addition to his wife, of the residence, Wayne is survived by a son, Dr. Jay Christopher Brumfield (Sharon) of Westfield, NJ; a daughter, Dr. Heather LaMere Greenfield (Dr. Adam Greenfield) of Oldsmar, FL; a granddaughter, Lauren Emily Brumfield of Boston, MA; two step grandchildren, Harrison Greenfield, and Serenity Greenfield, both of Oldsmar, FL; a half-sister, Barbara B. Kelly of Morrison, CO; and a step-mother, Giselle Hutchinson of Houston, TX. There will be a private graveside service at Highland Burial Park with the Reverend Wade Rowland and Mr. Bill Garrett officiating. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to God’s Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540, or the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541.
