Samuel Owen Morris Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Samuel Owen Morris, 76, of 1068 East Hightower Rd, Sutherlin, VA, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 1, 2022 at his residence after being in declining health for the past six months. Mr. Morris was born in Halifax County, VA on December 1, 1945, a son of the late Robert L. Morris and Ava Long Morris. He spent all of his life in Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties, where he was a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church in Sutherlin, where he was a choir member and served on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He was a member of the Elmo Hunting Club and the Good Timers Dance Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Morris was a Vietnam Veteran, who served in the United States Army and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. On May 23, 1969, he married Sheryl Brown Morris, who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife, Mr. Morris is survived by his sons, Jason S. Morris and wife Cathy of Ringgold, VA and Adam O. Morris and wife Lauren of Sutherlin, VA; his grandchildren, Samantha, Olivia, Coby, Grey, and Farrah Morris; sister, Violet Snead of South Boston, VA; brother, Burnett Morris and his wife Linda of South Boston, VA; special nephew, Robert Davis and wife, Robin of South Boston, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Irie Morris. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Arbor Baptist Church with the Reverend Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 and the United States Army. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times will be at the residence, 1068 East Hightower Rd, Sutherlin, VA 24594. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main is respectfully serving the Morris family.
