Bessie Mae Dalton Echols

Bessie Mae entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Bessie Mae Dalton Echols was born August 9, 1923 in Danville to Beatrice Compton Dalton and Harry Crawford Dalton. Bessie Graduated from Dan River High School in May of 1941. She married Luther Robertson Echols on May 2, 1942 and was married for 45 years until his death on August 9, 1988. She was a wonderful homemaker and a beautiful soul who spent many years caring for family members, her children, friends and church family with unconditional love. She was a charter member of Williamson Memorial Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Woman’s Prayer Circle until she made her home at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in October of 2006. Her door was always open to neighbors and especially the neighborhood “kids” and her grandchildren. She attended and enjoyed all the wonderful activities and church services at Roman Eagle, especially the singing and services done by Chaplain Mike Wiles. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Echols Scott (Lewis); three sons, Kenneth Neal (Donna), Randy Lee (Gladys), and Jerry Ray (Carolyn); ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Ray Dalton (Frances). In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by son, Luther Ronald Echols; brother, Avery Dalton; and three sisters, Ruby Travis, Lillian Henderson and Polly Collie. A special thank you to the many staff at Roman Eagle for their loving care. Bessie had many friends there who became family to her. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Michael Wiles officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Joyce Scott, 243 James Road, Danville, VA 24541.
