Billy Raymond Bryant

Billy Raymond Bryant, 92, of Pelham, NC died early Wednesday morn, June 24, 2026. He was under hospice care at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Born September 26, 1933 is Spout Springs, VA, he was the son of the late Carroll Wheeler and Doris Perdue Bryant. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Marvin H. Bryant. Mr. Bryant resided in the Pelham community for 40 years. Prior to his retirement, Billy served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After his service, he married his wife, Betty. He was married to the late Betty Lou Franklin Bryant for 48 years. He was a hard worker who provided well for his family by working in a pulp yard and delivering mail in Raleigh, NC. He earned his BS in Textile Engineering from NC State University. He then moved to Danville, VA where he worked for Dan River Mills for a number of years. He was of the Christian faith. Billy was very involved in the community and coached t-ball through Little League and Pee-Wee football. He loved coaching basketball at the rec center in Danville and if a kid did not have a way to get there, Dad would always pick them up. He was a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts, which he dearly loved connecting with young men and teaching them valuable life skills. Dad was a generous man, who always made time for his family. He loved his family dearly and always wanted the best for them. He also loved the outdoors, especially the mountains. Many fond memories of the family camping trips are still ingrained in children’s memories. After retirement, he enjoyed trips to Gatlinburg with his wife, Betty. After Betty’s passing in 2003, Billy went many years without a companion. That was until he met Jan. Billy is also survived by his loving companion, Jan Branford of Roanoke, VA. Jan has been very special to him. She has been by his side for over ten years and during that time they have enjoyed many trips and good times together. In addition to Jan, of the residence, he is survived by one son Scott Dwayne Bryant and wife Barbara of Salisbury, MD; two daughters, Kim Hamlett and husband A.C. of Danville, VA; and Ms. Wendy Bryant Adkins of Kannapolis, NC; five grandchildren, Blair Bryant Smith and her husband Dean of Browns Summitt, NC; Laura Hamlett of Garden City, SC; Carl Adkins of Kannapolis, NC; Tyler Adkins and his companion Sarah of Salisbury, MD; Brianna Bryant of Salisbury, MD; great-grandchildren, Caleb Adkins, Earle Adkins and Kaydin Adkins, of Cannapolis NC; and Aaron Miller, of Salisbury, MD. In addition to his parents and step-father, Billy was predeceased by his son, Gregory Kenley Bryant, grandson, Thomas Bryant, and great grandchild Sawyer Adkins. The Funeral Service for Billy will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel with Rev. Mike Hearp officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:45 A.M. – 12:45 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel, is respectfully serving the Bryant family.
