Clara Elizabeth Burnett Scearce

Clara Elizabeth Burnett Scearce, 104, formerly of Pine Lake Road, Danville, VA went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home after being in declining health for several years. Mrs. Scearce was born in Cascade, VA on July 9, 1912 a daughter to the late Charlie Walter Burnett and Addie Meeks Burnett. She had lived most of her life in Danville, VA where she had retired from Dan River Mills, Inc. and she worked at her home known as Rocky Ridge Farm where she enjoyed farm life. Mrs. Scearce loved to cook and make apple pies, to make quilts and crochet. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church where she was the oldest member and was a member of the United Methodist Women and various other committees. Mrs. Scearce was devoted to her family and a good friend to all that knew her. On December 31, 1939 she married Junior Roosevelt Scearce who died in 1989. Mrs. Scearce is survived by her daughter, Charlotte S. Davis & husband Andy of Danville, VA, one grandson, Mark A. Davis & wife Dana of Danville, VA, three great grandchildren, Matthew Jacob Davis, Sarah Elizabeth Davis & Grace Ann Davis all of Fredericksburg, VA, two step great-grandsons, Josh and Ethan Via of Danville, VA, one special sister-in-law, Ann S. Daniel of Danville, VA and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Jerry Oliver Scearce, one daughter, Iris Dawn Scearce, four sisters, Lilly Hawkins, Leslie Brown, Lucille McDaniel & Leafy Gauldin, five brothers, Clay, Will, Bud, Jessie & Russell Burnett. She was the last surviving member of her generation. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Daniel Lackey. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence of her daughter, Charlotte & Andy Davis, 1276 Pine Lake Road, Danville, VA 24541. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses, staff and all the caregivers of Roman Eagle Memorial Home for the care given to Mrs. Scearce over the past years.
