Janice Marie Giles

Janice Marie Giles, 71, of Ringgold, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026 at her residence. She was born on December 16, 1954, a daughter of the late Oscar Giles and Edith Marie Giles. She was a 1973 graduate of Dan River High School. Janice spent her entire life on the Giles Farm in Ringgold. She cared for her parents for many years and remained their caregiver until they entered the nursing home. She was very close to her sisters and enjoyed talking with Carol on the phone almost daily. She was also grateful for the kindness of her brother-in-law, Watson Buntin, who visited often, brought groceries, and helped her with transportation when needed. Her great-niece, Kaitlyn, her great-nephew, Zachary, and many children she babysat over the years affectionately called her “Sissy.” She cared for Zachary from infancy until he was old enough to attend preschool. Kaitlyn shared the middle name Marie with both her great-grandmother and her great-aunt, a connection that meant a great deal to Janice. Janice also worked at Mary’s Cottage at the Ringgold Flea Market, where she was known by many in the community. She was always buying little things for others, one of the many small ways she showed her thoughtfulness. She loved cats, butterflies, and flowers, and took special pride in the irises she grew. If you were lucky, she might even cut one of her irises for you. Many also remembered her for her long hair, one of her most distinctive features. She is survived by her sisters, Judy Buntin (Watson) of Danville and Linda Carol Luck (Bobby) of Danville; her niece, Angela Hughes Frazier (Jody); and her great-niece and great-nephews, Kaitlyn Brinkley, Zachary Brinkley, Matthew Frazier, and Michael Frazier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her fiancé, Tony Setliff. The graveside service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Highland Burial Park with Pastor Butch Robinson officiating. Janice will be remembered for spending her life taking care of others and for the simple kindness she showed in so many ways.
