Linda Spangler Chaney

Linda Spangler Chaney, 76, of 1220 Childress Road, passed from this life into the joys of Heaven on Saturday, August 29, 2026. She had been in declining health for the past five months. Linda was born on December 22, 1949 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Johnnie Spangler and the late Nellie Stanley Spangler. She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania County as a homemaker. On a rainy June 9, 1992, Linda married the love of her life, Alex Calvin Chaney, who survives. Together they enjoyed farm life, eating at the Texas Inn when they passed through Lynchburg, stopping for a hotdog at the Dairy Dell in South Boston, or just enjoying the little moments of life together. They attended and worshipped the Lord together at Glen Hill Baptist Church. Linda was known for her sweet smile and gentle ways. She saw the beauty in all the flowers around her home. She loved to crochet, especially baby blankets for her friends and family with little ones. She also loved a good chocolate milkshake at anytime of day and had a special love for the color pink. In addition to her parents, Linda was pre-deceased by her brother, Arthur Spangler. She is survived by her loving husband, Calvin Chaney of the residence; two sons, Russell Eckard and his wife Dallas of Ringgold, Virginia, & Alan Eckard and his wife Kelly of Big Island, Virginia,; a step-son, Charles Chaney, of Axton, Virginia; and a step-daughter, Brandie Collins and her husband David of Chatham, Virginia. Linda leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Holly Shelanksey (Alex), Hannah Wood (Jacob), Dusty Eckard (Anna), Leah Eckard, Chloe Eckard, Caleb Eckard, Brittany Chaney, Joy Collins, Johnny Eckard, Calvin Chaney, and William Collins. She also treasured her three great-grandchildren: Elias Shelanskey, Tatum Wood, and Danny Eckard. Her family was a great source of joy to her all year long, but especially at Christmastime. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice for their special care and consideration in Linda’s final days as well as to two special caregivers, Chevy Wilkinson and Alexis Morrisette. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, donations in Linda’s memory could be made to the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association at 223 Riverview Dr., Suite J Danville, VA 24541. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Wrenn Yeatts Funeral Home (North Main Chapel) on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 with Pastor Barry Solomon officiating her celebration of life. Interment will be held at Floral Hills Memory Gardens of Danville, Virginia. Visitation will be held on September 2, 2026 prior to the service at 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m., and other times at the residence, 1220 Childress Road Ringgold, Virginia 24586. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
