Lula Belle Slade

Lula Belle Slade, 87, of 3501 US Hwy 158 East, Yanceyville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2026. She was born in Danville, VA on August 13, 1938, a daughter of the late Jim Henry Lunsford and the late Myrtle Simmons Lunsford. Lula Belle was a graduate of the Class of 1956 at Bartlett Yancey High School. She spent her life in Caswell County where she owned and operated Lou Slade Accounting, faithfully serving her community by preparing taxes for over 50 years. A woman of many talents and fearless determination, Lula Belle made history as the first female firefighter in Caswell County. She was a proud member of the Leasburg Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a First Responder with dedication and courage. Whether answering emergency calls or helping neighbors in need, she was always someone her community could count on. Lula Belle was also a member of the Society of Accountants and the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club, where she enjoyed the open road and the friendships she made along the way. She lived life with a spirit of independence, proving that you could balance books during the week and enjoy the freedom of the highway whenever the opportunity arose. She was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, always ready with a remark that could make others smile even in stressful moments. Lula Belle especially loved bringing her family together, often hosting holidays at her home where everyone felt welcome. At Christmastime, she was known to go the extra mile by dressing up as Santa Claus, delighting her family and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. She was a very active member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully served as an Elder and was deeply devoted to her church family. Lula Belle is survived by one daughter, Shelia Slade of Yanceyville, NC; two grandchildren, Samantha Avedesian (Jonathan) and Ethan Slade (Skylar); and four great-grandchildren, Roman Avedesian, Titan Avedesian, Arman Avedesian, and Cannan Avedesian; her sister, Elaine Briggs of Yanceyville, NC; former daughter-in-law, Melissa Buchanan Smith (Don); and special nieces and nephew, Hannah Thompson, Hunter Thompson (Shawnee; son Ryder) and Rhonda Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph E. Slade in 1995; her son, Al Slade; and six siblings. A Funeral Service for Lula Belle will be held at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 85 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Yanceyville, NC, on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 3:00 pm with Reverend Steve Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:30 pm prior to the service at the church. Wrenn-Yeatts Yanceyville is respectfully serving the Slade family.
